Ice is a privately owned mega yacht of 295 feet and one of the largest mega yachts in the world. She was originally owned by Ernesto Bertarelli, a Swiss-Italian businessman, under the name Air, but was sold to Russian billionaire in 2005. Ice is distinguished for being the most environmentally-friendly yacht of her time.
Ice was manufactured at the Lürssen yard in Bremen, Germany to the design of Tim Heywood. She utilizes diesel-electric power through eight 842kW Deutz 16-cylinder generators that provide electric power to two ABB type 5 azipod propellers. The azipod propeller design is the front-running technology of environmental yachting.
Ice features a swimming pool on the stern deck and a Jacuzzi on the sun deck. She also carries a EC 135 helicopter. Her interior is spacious and luxurious, with a spiral staircase and modern furniture. As an environmentally-friendly yacht, Ice has little environmental impact. She boasts low emissions, low vibrations, and also low sound levels.
